Clearwater River, Hells Canyon Spring Guided Fishing

Spring Fishing on the Clearwater River in Lewiston Idaho means the Springer’s are on their way. Entering the Columbia River from Astoria Oregon these fish will travel 450 miles making their way up the Columbia and Snake River to the Confluence of the Clearwater. The Spring Salmon fishery starts late April and will give us a solid run into the latter part of June. This is an exciting time of the year with pods and pods of chrome salmon pushing their way up river towards the town of Orofino Idaho. Our exclusive permit gives us 50 miles of superb fishing. The fish are plentiful and offer our clients great opportunities to catch their limits. Our Hells Canyon Snake River Sturgeon trips out of Clarkston Washington are truly a trophy fishery. Fishing the deep holes in the Hells Canyon area for these prehistoric fish measuring up to 12 feet in length makes this a very rare guided trip. Sturgeon fishing on the Snake River in the Hells Canyon area is catch and release only but does give us opportunities for some killer photo opts.

Temps: The Lewis and Clark valley is part of the banana belt region offering beautiful spring weather that is ideal even for our southern states fishermen. Average temperatures in the 70’s with occasional sprinkles make this a T-Shirt trip. Cool mornings and warm afternoons!

Fishing Techniques: These Springer Salmon that hit the Clearwater are very vulnerable to back-trolling eggs and plugs with herring wraps. Spring run off raises the Clearwater and gives us lots of pockets of holding water for our Salmon. When the flows drop then bouncing eggs like we do for our steelhead is lethal. Fishing from a jet boat is a must with the big flows and getting our clients on fish is the norm.

What to expect: Northwest Salmon Fishing is a very popular sport fishery and our spring Clearwater salmon run has a limited season. With this in mind, we only have so many days to chase these fish. Expect the fish to be plentiful and fishermen with tight lines. The State of Idaho sets a quota of fish to be caught and once achieved, the season will be closed. This is a popular destination-fishing trip and can be combined with a Hells Canyon sturgeon trip.
