Snake River Fishing Guides

The Snake River in the Hells Canyon area is one of North Americas best sport fishing locations. Providing such a diversified array of fishing options for anglers is no joke. The river getting it’s name honestly from a winding snake has many characteristics to it’s body. Deep holes that occupy prehistoric sturgeon can also host steelhead. The river has many classic runs with shallow riffles followed by tail outs where both small mouth bass and steelhead can be found. Large eddies host an abundance of catfish and at times can find an iron head resting. Many big game animals roam the steep hills providing photo opts. Not too many places on this earth you can catch a steelhead while watching Rocky Mountain elk or a Big Horn sheep graze in the canyons. Our Snake River fishing packages are built and ready for you to customize. Our guides live in the valley and have all grown up on our local rivers. We can meet you at the Lewiston Airport and provide excellent lodging choices to accommodate your group.

Snake River Hells Canyon Steelhead Fishing

September - January

The Snake River in the Hells Canyon area is one of the most scenic parts of the world. Did we mention it’s the deepest in North America? Large cavern red walls line the riverbanks that create awesome holes for our steelhead. Wild life is a canyon staple and catching lots and lots of A -run fish surrounded by beauty makes this part of the world very special. In September our guides will shift from our Buoy 10 King Salmon fishing to the Hells Canyon area for both steelhead and fall Chinook salmon. Our jet boats are wide open and can accommodate up to 6 fishermen. We’ll put in at Hellar Bar, which is up river 30 miles from Asotin Washington. We fish around the mouth of the Grande Ronde River and up and down throughout the canyon. The fish stack up here and provides hot action throughout the months of September thru January. Smaller in size than our Clearwater B Run fish the Snake River steelhead has its own personality.

Side drifting with eggs or shrimp is potent on these 6-12 pound fish. With the warmer water the fish tend to bite on the much more aggressive side. This time of the year we can provide a combo Steelhead/Salmon/Sturgeon trip that know where else can be found.

We understand the responsibility of taking care of our fishing guests and providing them with a memorable experience. Our company motto More than Fishing is just that. We focus on the entire adventure. Our guides will work hard for our clients and will coach each fisherman into becoming a better one. We can assure that on each trip you will have a Stott’s fishing guide team member as your captain. We don’t contract out other guides from other business and we won’t hook and hand you a fish. It’s our obligation to you!

Snake River Hells Canyon Sturgeon Fishing

April - October

We have 2 guides available to fish for this mammoth, prehistoric fish that resides in the Hells Canyon area. While we are not able to retain a caught sturgeon, it’s the rodeo ride that gives our clients a thrill. Our guides will offer Sturgeon trips parts of 7 months throughout the Hells Canyon area and can package it with a steelhead trip.

Sturgeon can live up to 100 years old and can measure in length up to 14 feet. It’s not uncommon to catch 8 to 10 foot fish that will create a cool photo opportunity. Most sturgeon will remain in the deeper holes throughout the canyon and will feed on bottom prey. Most of our fishing is done with cut bait while we anchor up our jet boat. The currents below the surface will push feed along with our baits in front of these beasts. When hooking up, unclip the line and hold on to your pants! These fish are acrobatic and will create enough fight for two anglers.

With all our guided adventures we will supply the bait and tackle, beverages, and cook a hot BBQ lunch on one of our scenic beaches.

Snake River Hells Canyon Salmon Fishing

September-October

The Snake River in the Hells Canyon area provides our guides and clients with some solid Fall Chinook salmon fishing. In the month of September fall Chinook make their way from Astoria Oregon up the Columbia and Snake eventually arriving to the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater River. These fish will spend a lot of their time resting in the confluence which gives us plenty of opportunities to hammer down on these silver torpedos. The state this time of the year will allow for us to keep up to 3 adult hatchery salmon and 3 jacks which makes for a lot of action.

Once the Salmon have rested in the confluence they’ll continue their journey up river toward the Salmon River in the Hells Canyon area. We’ll ambush the fish around the Heller bar area both side drifting bait and back trolling. These fish still have a lot of fight in them after traveling 450 miles from the ocean. Combine the Fall Chinook Salmon trip with a steelhead adventure and you have chaos in the canyon.

Snake River Hells Canyon Bass Fishing

May – October

What a treat to be able to catch up to 100 smallmouth bass in a day on one of North America’s most diverse rivers. They might not be considered trophy fish by bass anglers standards, but many will argue where can you have more fun catching bronze backs. On most trips we will stumble onto a 3-5 pound fish and on light tackle in fairly fast current, that is a thrill. Throwing crank baits early morning along with jigs is lethal on these frisky critters. Most of fishing is done around structure where boulders lie beneath the surface in some softer water. There are a lot of points and gravel bars that also provide great water for the bass. When the water warms up and the flows are on the decline is definitely prime fishing time. The month of May can have high water so it’s best to check in with us before picking out a good fishing date.

The months of July and August are excellent fishing as well in to the fall. We love to fish with light line tackle and feel every ounce of fight from our smallmouth. Our jet boats are set up perfectly to maneuver into backwaters where the fish lie. With all our adventures we’ll provide the bait and tackle, beverages, and cook a hot BBQ lunch on one of our scenic beaches
