Meet the Stotts
The Stottlemyre's, originally from Eastern Washington, have always had a passion for the outdoors. As a young boy Mel Jr. began fishing rivers throughout Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Those rivers include the likes of the Clearwater, Snake, Columbia, John Day, Yakima, Cowlitz, Klickitat, and many more. Between the outdoors and baseball the family was very busy but always found time for one another. Baseball was a huge part of the Stottlemyre's lives and still is today. Mel Sr. played for the New York Yankees in the 60's and early 70's. He later became the pitching coach for the Yankees in the 1990'S during their dynasty run. Mel Jr. has fond memories of growing up in Yankee Stadium with his dad and brothers. Some of Mel's greatest memories are fishing with his dad and brothers alongside, Mickey Mantle and Thurman Munson.
Being around baseball all his life Mel Jr. also had aspirations of following in his dad's footsteps of playing and coaching in the big leagues. Mel Jr. played High School Baseball in Yakima Washington at Davis High School. It wasn't long after, Mel Jr. found himself pitching in the major leauges for the Kansas City Royals.
From the Ballpark to the Rivers
Mel Sr. spent thirty years in New York as a player and coach but always had the Northwest in the back of his mind. Hunting and Fishing is what he and Mel Jr. truly dreamed of when not on the field. Mel Sr. has since retired from the game of Baseball and currently lives in the Seattle area. Mel Jr. is currently still in the game of baseball as a coach with the Seattle Mariners. Baseball may be the Stottlemyre's passion, however fishing is their life. In the fall and winter fishing is what the Stottlemyre's truly aspire to do.
Mel Jr has been fishing on the Clearwater most of his lifetime and guiding trips in his baseball off season. In 2013 Mel and his father had the opportunity to purchase Snake River Guide Service, and with this opportunity, Stotts Fishing Adventures was born.
Mel Jr. has built his business on hard work, knowledge of the river, and an incredible ability to make people feel welcome on his boat. It doesn't matter the age or the ability of the fisherman, Men, Women and Children will all have an adventure of a lifetime. Mel and his team will coach and guide you through casting and other techniques to where you become comfortable and successful. Mel's true goal is to take care of people and give them the experiences he had as a young boy growing up in the Northwest.
Mel Stottlemyre Jr - Owner/Guide
Mel is the owner/operator of Stott's Fishing Adventures and also guides his clients during the baseball off-season. The Stottlemyre Family has spent most of their lifetime in Major League baseball. Mel Jr. is still working in baseball and currently with the Seattle Mariners as a coach. Watching his Dad pitch for the New York Yankees and getting a chance to roam the outfield in Yankee stadium was a thrill for a kid coming from a little country town in the state of Washington.
While you won't find Lisa on any of our guided adventures, it's not uncommon to see her delivering some fresh baked treats to our BBQ beach lunches. Lisa will usually be the one to answer the company phone when you call to inquire about fishing trips. Lisa stays in touch with all our guides as to how the fishing is, as well as their availability for future trips. She also coordinates our special events and assists with transporting clients from the Lewiston airport to the Little Canyon Lodge. Lisa is a Georgia girl that grew up catching catfish on a cane pole. After marrying and moving to the Northwest, she soon got converted to winter steelhead fishing while adjusting to our winters. Lisa's first steelhead was caught while fishing with Mel Sr and Mel Jr on the John Day river. Lisa's southern charm and home made treats make her a clients favorite.
As a young girl being raised in a baseball family and spending time in the outdoors of the Northwest, Maleigha wasn't your typical girly girl. Maleigha's first fishing experience came while on a camping trip to the Salmon River, fishing for small mouth bass. She caught her first trout in a lake around the Blue Mountains at age 3. While brothers Colton and Blaise enjoy more of fishing rivers, Maleigha preferred mountain lakes. These days you can find her hiking trails around the Portland area where she moved after graduating from Washington State University with a sports management degree. Maleigha spent 4 years working in professional baseball and is currently employed by Nike. She also helps with the marketing side of our fishing business.
At the young age of 16, Colton and brother Blaise have experienced a lot of what his dad, uncle, and grandfather experienced growing up in a baseball family and getting to fish in the off season. Colton is his Dad's number one deckhand and a very good host on our fishing adventures. Colton's first fishing trip took him down the Madison, fly-fishing with his Dad at the ripe old age of 3. Colton's most memorable fishing trip was with his Grandpa, Dad, and brother when he caught his 22-pound Clearwater steelhead. Colt is a natural when it comes to side drifting and is a great coach for our clients as well netting fish. Pitching is also in Colton's genes as when he's not fishing you can find him on the mound.
Blaise better know as Beezy can also be seen netting client's fish in Dad's boat. Blaise spends a lot of time with Dad compiling video footage from our trips and assisting in producing the final cuts. Blaise's favorite fish to catch is small mouth bass but it also an excellent steelhead fishermen. Not many kids can say they've caught an 18-pound steelhead by the ripe old age of seven. Blaise's fondest fishery memory is the three-day jet boat trip up Hells Canyon, catching a couple hundred bass with his family. Beezy loves to throw crank baits and jigs with light line tackle. Blaise, like his brother has baseball in his blood. Both Boys enjoy being on the field as much as they do on the river.
