FAQ

We're Here To Help!   Discover why Fishing the Clearwater River with Stott's fishing Adventures is a favorite destination for fishing guests of all levels.

Q: What fishing techniques do you use?

A: Stott's Pro Guides have been fishing the Clearwater river for most of their lives and spend every day during the steelhead season chasing fish. The most effective method on our fish is side-drifting bait. We fish the finest Loomis rods and match them with Shimano Stradic reels for the perfect 9 foot light weight set up. When the water gets low and fish get spooky, out come our deadly coon shrimp set ups behind our bait divers. Let it eat, Let it eat, Let it eat, SET THE HOOK…..Fish On!!

Q: Do I have to be an experienced fisherman?

A: We are all Fathers and Husbands and make fishing a family experience. We like to think of ourselves as your private coach throughout the day, teaching you the ins and outs of becoming a better fisherman. Our hands on, pro active approach make this more than just a get in the boat, fish and go home trip. We adjust to the level of our fisherman and are set-up to fish any group. We can assure you that you'll have a great fishing experience fishing with one of Stott's Pro Staffers.

Q: Do you have a minimum person requirement?

A: We have a 3 person Jet boat minimum and a 2 person drift boat minimum. Our jet boats are licensed to carry a maximum of 6 clients per boat and we are equipped to handle groups of up to 18. Our drift boats can carry up to 4 fisherman. On our jet boat trips, our deckhands will help keep your line in the water and net your fish of a lifetime.

Q: When is the best time to fish the Clearwater River?

A: Our Clearwater Adventures start in September and runs through March with each month offering a different fishing experience. Early Fishing on the Clearwater is fast and furious as these fish just entered the system and are acrobatic. Shallow and riffled water is where these fish will be found and when hooked up, hold on to your rod! As we move in to the winter months, the water temperature drops and the fish head to the deep holes. By now, we've received many pushes of fish into the river and is the opportunity to have some double digit days. The bite is a little more subtle and patience becomes a virtue.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Just bring with you a valid fishing license and the proper clothing to match the current season. With all our adventures, we'll provide the bait and tackle, water, pop, and cook a hot BBQ lunch for our fishing guests. Check our weather icon on our home page to get the updated Lewiston weather forecast. Lewiston is considered to have fairly mild winters.

Q: What is your cancellation Policy?

A: All cancellation notices must be received in writing 30 days prior to your guided trip in order to receive a full refund. With your written notice of cancellation between 15 and 30 days prior to your trip, we will issue you a credit for another date chosen by your group. Cancellations within 2 weeks of your trip will result in a No refund. Please respect our policy as when we book trips, those days are locked in and not offered to other groups.

Q: Where exactly are you located?

A: We are located in Lewiston Idaho, the lower portion of the Idaho Panhandle that sits on the Washington/Idaho Border. Our fishing rivers start just outside of the town Lewiston and extend more than 70 miles. Our lodging is 50 minutes up river from the Lewiston Airport. We have 2 major airlines, Delta and Alaska that fly in daily. Driving to Lewiston, we are 5 hours from Seattle and Boise, 6 hours from Portland, 3 hours from Missoula and Yakima, and 2 hours from Spokane and the Tri Cities.

Q: How much do you require for a deposit & when do you start booking trips?

A: At the time of booking, we require a 50% deposit and the remaining balance at the end of your trip. Once you've identified your group and fishing date, it's best to get on our books as early as possible. Our Clearwater Adventures are very popular with our Northwest Fisherman. We have 3 guides at your convenience.

Q: What other species can I fish for with Stott's?

A: We fish for Salmon, Sturgeon, and Bass besides our Famous Steelhead. We begin our transition from Steelhead to Spring Salmon on the Clearwater in April and May. Moving in to our summer fishery we offer Sturgeon and Bass Trips on the Snake and Grande Ronde river. As fall approaches we move to Buoy 10 for Fall Chinook in Astoria Oregon. Bryan Miller and Craig Hays will be your Pro Guides. In late September we head back home to fish our Snake River for Stott’s Salmon-Steelhead Combo Trip.

Q: Can I fish with another group?

A: We respect each one of our groups and want to offer the best fishing and river experience for that group. We let our clients pick their fishing group members and will not impose on other groups or parties.
